For a long time now, I have believed that George Bush may yet be proven right in the move to invade Iraq.  Although the near term showed him to be wrong concerning weapons of mass destruction, the longer term may show different.

Taking over Iraq changed the whole dynamics of the region.  For example, the conflict between Iraq and Iran ended.  Iraq represented the large land area (the heart of the Moslem world)  between Syria and Iran and Saudi Arabia.  With stability in Iraq, the people of Iran no longer think in terms of warfare as a way of life as was the case in the 1980's and 90's.

With change in Iraq, comes change in Iran.  Before you go on blaming Bush, think twice on this matter.  Just like anything else in life, consider that every action of change will have an effect on the future.  This movement in Iran will in the end have a negative effect on the Taliban cause next door.  It will also have a negative effect on the terrorist cause worldwide.

If we had gone into Afghanistan only, we would have gained zero value real estate in the middle of nowhere with even more loss of life involved with a population less sophisticated than that of Iraq.
